I had a great experience at this location. Our waitress was so sweet & attentive and the food was excellent on this visit. We came here for a late dinner and sat in their outside patio which is smoker friendly. The food was very fresh and I particularly wanted to commend them on their pork tamales. While they weren't the best I've ever had, they were excellent & for the Jacksonville area--that's saying something. I've come here before in the summer time during the day when there were a bunch of crumb-crunchers running around screaming and I literally had to leave because I didn't want to eat in such chaos. And this particular area has a bunch of young families, so this last experience was very pleasant having the choice to sit outside and enjoy a meal in peace. FYI: They do not offer pitchers of beer, but they have happy hour, drink specials and giant 32 oz. Dos Equis for $5.99 that's pretty much the size of most pitchers anyway. I highly recommend the pork tamales because they are remarkable & I appreciate that they have proper Round Foil Take Out Pans for your to-go orders where food can be easily reheated in a toaster oven. Overall, I highly recommend this place for good food, great service and reasonable prices and with such limited choices in this area, this place did not disappoint us.

Normally very consistent with food quality but not today. We Ordered the 2 taco special, Chicken for me and beef for my wife. My chicken tacos were good but they had no cheese and my wife's beef taco's weren't good. When they asked about our meals, I told them and they took my wife's meal off the bill thus gaining an extra star.

Never a bad experience!!!!!!!!! I've been coming here for about two years now, and service and food are always perfect!!!!! Servers and bartenders are always polite and helpful. Food always comes out exactly how you order it, and it is great quality Mexican food!

As I sit here on a cold Sunday afternoon enjoying my leftovers from last night, I am compelled to write a shining review of this location. Yes we all know La Nop is a chain so it seems silly to be gushing about it, but I think this location is special. We have friends in the area so we decided to stop in here for a late dinner, it was probably about 9:30 or so. We asked to be seated outside on the patio. A large bowl of hot and fresh chips w/ salsa came out almost immediately, and after about 5 minutes we had our beers in hand. The table then shared: One of the burrito specials Several beef tamales (excellent!) Tacos al Pastor Everything was fresh and very delicious!! Out waitress informed us that her husband was the chef in the back! Very cool. The dude can cook! My friend said this place fills up with lots of families and kids earlier in the evening so be aware if that's not your thing. But overall very highly recommends for a tasty Mexican meal.

La nop is a very popular place to go for some cheap drinks all week long. Unfortunately I find the food very sloppy and not the least bit authentic. I have grown up eating the real deal and was pretty disappointed when a messy plate of red sauce and rice was placed in front of me. The server seemed like he had better things to be doing throughout the entire meal. He gave the impression that were were wasting his time. I didn't really appreciate the way the employees were complaining about some other customers as if they were the only people in the place that spoke Spanish. Everyone has a bad day but come on folks at least complain at the server station... All round it was a disappointment but they cheap drinks made an attempt at redemption but still fell short.

Absolutely the best Mexican food I've ever eaten. The staff is so friendly and the food is incredible. The margaritas are strong and the chicken tacos are always a winner. I visit this place on a very regular basis and have literally never had a bad experience. I always leave full and satisfied. Plus it's cheap!

The restaurant has a strange odor: combination of rotting lettuce and pine sol cleaner. The menu items are hidden under handfuls of lettuce, greasy defied beans and mounds of cheese, sour cream and guacamole. I would never refer to this as authentic Mexican food but a fast food greasy diner. We tried it twice and both times were a disappointment. I will never return.

Extremely poor service when showing up late at night. Bartender, bigger female, extremely rude and was cleaning with a rag that smelled 4 weeks old. Overall a horrible experience would NEVER return to this location.

Well we decided to try this out since it was nearby to where we just moved. First it is loud in this location. Expect during rush hour to speak loudly. Next the salsa and chips came out. Salsa initially tasted like cocktail sauce. Something was definitely off about it. I've made salsas and had many prepared salsas and this was the worst. Next the meal ordered the carne azada (asada) and it was the first time I have seen that dish prepared as a butterflied steak. I asked for medium or medium rare it came out gray throughout so basically well done. The rice was okay and the beans were bland, even the steak had little flavor. I ate maybe half the meal and was done. I will say the server even though busy, did his best to keep drinks full and chips going. I have heard from friends other locations are much better.

My sons took me to lunch today, which is a treat in itself but the food was awesome as usual. This is one if our favorite Mexican places in the area. The service was a little slow today but it was lunch time and every Sheriff on duty in the county was here for lunch too. (You know it's good when the police show up to eat too!). But the food came out as ordered (and I do have a picky eater.). The only problem that we always have here is the parking and there is never enough and as I said before the Sheriffs took it all so we had to park a bit away and you DO NOT want to park at the Tutor Time next door because they WILL tow your car! But it was worth the walk and wait as usual.

Today's lunch service was ok. There were only a few folks in the restaurant today but the waiter, uncharacteristically, seemed bored and uninvolved. Perhaps he was simply having a bad day as the service here is usually quite stellar. I ordered 2 cheese enchiladas with beans and rice. I wanted onions in the enchiladas but the server said they could only put them on top....hmmmnnn, I guess I thought that the enchiladas were made in house. At any rate, the cheese was not cooked enough and had a firm texture which I didn't care for in combination with the wrap of the enchilada...icky.... Rice was flavorful and beans were great! The taco salad on the other hand was its usual delish self! Crispy, artery clogging goodness! Off day today at La Nop I guess.

My wife and I ate dinner on 5/11/13 here. It was pretty good. I tried something new as did my wife. I forgot the names of the meals we ordered, but we both liked the food and the service was very attentive. We normally order fajita's, but we branched out. Mine was an enchilada dish and Nancy had their version of a chimichunga. The prices are very reasonable too.

Strong drinks and authentic flavor make this a local favorite. I love the enchiladas. Get to know the bartender and they will treat you right!

I have to say, dinner at La Nop was not what I was expecting. This La Nop I met friends at for dinner, is not like the La Nop I go to all the time with my family. However, I am in no way disappointed. The restaurant was a little nicer inside, but it seemed a little smaller than the one I usually go to. I ordered a margarita to drink while we waited for the rest of our party to show up; didn't disappoint, and they actually got it right - no salt! I split the chimichanga with my boyfriend since we had a late lunch. It was a ball of fried fabulousness. I had never tried a chimichanga prior to this evening and I must say I enjoyed myself. I wouldn't order it every time, but I would definitely add it to to the list of regularly rotated items. Our waiter seemed a little preoccupied as the night went on, but the service wasn't horrible. The tip about using CR 210 as a reference point, instead of the actual address definitely helped. The parking situation isn't the best, but there definitely is plenty on the side and behind the building.

Best carnitas I've had in Florida and as good as I use to get in El Paso. Very friendly and helpful staff.

My husband and I have eaten at every La Nop location except Savannah. It's the best Mexican food around, so I was disappointed in the quality of this particular location. We've been here 3 times, and each time, the service left much to be desired, both dining in and taking out. The wait staff is not friendly and often seem preoccupied with others things, whether or not it was busy. You feel as if you're burdening them. This needs to change. Don't get me wrong--the food is great--but the substandard quality of the wait staff needs to be improved; otherwise, we're content with driving a half-hour to a different La Nop in order to receive a better dining experiene.

Stopped in at the 210 La Nop a few weeks back for dinner with some family and friends. Heard a lot about the place, and most of the reviews were either hit or miss, however I was in the mood for a delicious burrito, and had heard the beers here were on point, so decided to swing on in. Parking can be a bit of a challenge- the restaurant is located in a strip mall kind of off the road, and there's only a few spots available in front of the store. There's a huge parking lot next door for something, but I guess you get towed for parking there, so we ended up parking in a dirt road across the parking lot. We were seated immediately, and although it was a bit dark in the restaurant, it had a lively atmosphere. Soccer games were on all the TV's, and I noticed the walls covered with Mexican beer signs (Mostly Dos Equis) and soccer jerseys. Not sure if they were going for authentic Mexican restaurant or sports bar- they both kind of missed the mark. Our server immediately brought us a large bowl of chips and salsa and took our drink orders- the beers are no joke. I believe it was $2.75 for a pint, or $4.50 for a MASSIVE gallon sized glass... I took the larger, obviously, and really enjoyed that beer... those things are no joke. I ordered the carne asada burrito, my chick a taco salad. They tell you on the menu to wait, as they make everything fresh to order, but it wasn't more than 10 minutes when our food came out to the table, plates crackling hot. The carne asada was cooked just right, I got a big ol' slab of meat, along with three freshly baked soft tortilla shells, and a large plate of lettuce, tomato, guacamole, and sour cream. I was able to slice the carne asada to my liking, and make my own burritos, which I really enjoyed. They were big, fat, overflowing with meat, veggies, and guacamole, and they were GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD. My chick really enjoyed her taco salad- a HUGE mix of chips, beef, veggies, and toppings. I was able to barely finish my meal, and she had to bring most of hers home for me to enjoy for lunch the next day. Overall, I enjoyed my visit here. The atmosphere was a bit off, but the food and service made up for it. Really enjoyed my meal, it was fairly cheap, but delicious, freshly made, and our server was good. Would definitely stop in again.

Ok... per request of Ed, I will update with what I ordered and the quality of the food. I ordered a couple of the combination dinners since I didn't know what to expect from this place. First time I ordered enchiladas and taco. The second time I ordered chalupa and burrito. I must say that I loved the way the sauced up the enchiladas. They gave a decent amout of filling and the sauce was just right. Some places make it ever so so slightly sour (maybe from the limes or salsa?) The taco was ok since I mistakenly got the soft and not hard. I prefer hard tacos. The burrito wasn't as impressive as Anna's Taqueria in Boston. To clarify... what makes a burrito is not only what is stuffed in it but the shell/wrap. The burrito wrap was good but didn't have that nice out of the oven taste and texture... still its way better than Qdoba. Next I will venture to the chimichanga and chile relleno and will update this post just for Ed.

The best local Mexican place in Jacksonville, hands down! My family and I are dedicated fans of La Nopalera! We frequent the San Jose and the CR 210 locations. The 210 location has a great patio. My favorites are the special Vallarta and the chimichangas, but the whole menu is delicious and affordable. If you are super hungry, try the fajita nachos. You will have to take some home! Their margaritas are frigging amazing! Be sure to order queso dip for your starter nachos! The servers are nice, and it's really cool how they carry 5-10 plates at a time on their arms all the way up to their shoulders. Why not five stars? -The CR 210 location's hostesses are not always with it, and often seem to be resting or relaxing instead of working. They also seat the dining room in a clustered way, such that you are right up next to another group, even though there is open space on the floor. -The CR 210 location is decorated in such a way as to create large amounts of echo and ambient noise. Many times, I have left the restaurant with a dull ringing in my ears because of the constant buzz resultant from the fact that the dining room has nothing to help absorb some of the errant noise. -Parking at the CR 210 location can be difficult at times. Consider carpooling, or getting there before the rush.

The only reason to go to this place is to have drinks but even those are getting worse. There's zero consistency in what I get when I place an order sometimes it looks one way and others it's like completely different. Their guacamole is way too neon bright for me to consider it edible. I've had their nachos sometimes I get meat and cheese but most often I get a plate of lettuce with chips under it. I have given this place 4 tries but inconsistent prices on drinks, and poor quality have left me thinking I can eat somewhere else first then meet friends here when I'm bored and desperate.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
